Edward Spencer
Edward is retiring from teaching at the end of this coming September. Now are the final days when you’ll be able to experience first hand his incredible teaching style. His warm heart, many years of hand-on experience, and his personal attention to each student all lend to a dynamic learning environment.
Edward majored in psychology and has graduate credits in clinical psychology. He has been a practitioner of Ashiatsu (Barefoot Shiatsu) for 29 years and an instructor in the Bay Area for 25 years. Past major influences on his work include Master Y.C. Chiang for Tai Chi, Loren Berry for structural work, and the Lomi School for body-oriented psychology. Recent influences include 10 years in personal therapy, 15 years of psychic work with Phyllis Pay, and 10 years facilitating men’s groups through the Center for Intuitive Energy Processing. Edward has taught many students, and apprenticed some, who have gone on to become instructors at AI. Those in our current faculty include Katie Carrin, Leah Gilman and Graham Quigley.
Edward’s upcoming classes are Ashiatsu 1 (8/5 & 8/12) Ashiatsu II (9/3 & 9/4) and Ashiatsu III (9/19 & 9/26). Please visit our class schedule for more information.
“Edward embodies generosity and patience in teaching, and maintains strict integrity of the form he was shown, which is about the integration (mind/body/spirit) of the whole person being taken into account while giving and receiving Ashiatsu. I’m always amazed at the attention he can keep giving to the same move until it works for whoever he is teaching.”
