One of our star student counselors, Jason Mañalac, will be competing in a triathlon helping to support the Berkeley Free Clinic. In order to help show our support of Jason and the Berkeley Free Clinic, we will be donating $1.00 per new student in every class offered through the month of March. Help us give back to the community by taking a new class, in which you too, can give back through the healing power of Acupressure.

An open letter from Jason:

Hello Everyone!

I’m competing in Ironman 70.3 Oceanside, California on April 2, 2011. It’s a triathlon that consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, & 13.1 mile run. It will be my first half-iron & half-marathon all in one race. The Full Ironman will have to wait until 2012.

I am racing on behalf of the Berkeley Free Clinic (BFC), which is a non-profit organization that is committed to providing free, primary healthcare to the medically underserved. Many clients seen at the BFC are homeless or transient, uninsured or underinsured, and have very limited healthcare options. With current funding cuts to community health, the clinic is in need of your support to ensure we can continue to provide medical, dental, counseling and/or referral services to those in need.

I have been a Lab Technician volunteer at the clinic since February 2010 and it’s gratifying to know that executing simple lab tests get clients one step closer to receiving the proper diagnosis, treatment, and/or referral. Although it will be a challenge for me to complete this race, I will be especially motivated by the excitement of knowing that our efforts will benefit a good cause.

I am asking friends and family to consider sponsoring me for this event. I have two goals- first to complete the race; second to meet my goal of raising $300 for the Berkeley Free Clinic. I would greatly appreciate any kind consideration and donation toward this goal.

Donating for this cause can be made online at: http://www.berkeleyfreeclinic.org/pages/donate

You may also send a check (payable to the Berkeley Free Clinic) and send them to:

Berkeley Free Clinic
2339 Durant Ave
Berkeley, CA 94704

If you would like to make a donation, please write my name and “Half-Ironman” in the “Memo” on the check so I can track my fundraising progress.

Together we can combat inequality in healthcare access. With your support, the Berkeley Free Clinic can continue to provide services for people and not for profit.

Thanks in advance for your support!
